Week 4: Adventurous Spirit

Happy Monday!

If you follow me on Twitter, then you know, despite the hour, I didn’t forget about the newsletter; it’s just been an interesting past few days. But, I got through it and now it’s onto the emblem. This week is Adventurous Spirit, or the bane of my existence, as I started calling it.

It’s really not that difficult of a pattern, but I started off using an old version of the chart. Then as I started testing it, I realized one of the colors the program picked was super wrong. (Looked wonderful on the screen — in real life? Not so much.) Basically, I became an expert in frogging over the weekend.

Anyway, there is a color update for this week that wasn’t in the list I sent out a couple of weeks ago, 869. But, any light brown that shows enough contrast against the orange will work. The other colors you’ll need are white, 976, and 3033. And yes, the order of my emblems are different than what you have. Oops. That’s what happens when I suddenly decide to change my mind about which emblem to make for the week, LOL.

Be sure to check out/use the #destiny2cal posts. They are all amazing. This week’s pic comes from vycee25 over on Instagram. If you are alright with me posting your pic in the newsletter, let me know if you haven’t already done so.

As a reminder, all newsletters which have the previous emblems, instructions, legal stuff, introduction, etc. are available here. And if you’re having trouble receiving these newsletters, make sure to check your spam folder. As always. if you have any questions, drop them my way.

Happy Crafting,
Jess 😀 😀

Week 3: Try the Special

Happy Monday! (Is that an oxymoron?)

This week’s emblem is Try the Special. You knew ramen had to make its way onto the emblem collection, right? I mean, thanks to the marketing, it’s the like unofficial food of Destiny 2. This week’s colors are 310, 600, 996, and white, but again, if you have something kicking around your house that’s close, go for it.

On a side note, I always use three strands when I work with black thread on white aida. I loathe seeing the white peeking through (conversely, I use 3 strands of white on black aida), so if you notice your square has a little more white showing through the black, that is probably what’s going on.

Amazing goodness is coming from the #destiny2cal tag. Seriously, if you need a boost of encouragement, just go look and see what your fellow crafters are doing. I love seeing all the progress! ❤ I would really like to start linking back to some of your work, so if you don’t mind me using your picture (with credit/link back to your pic, of course) in a future newsletter, please let me know either as a reply to this or drop me a message on Twitter or IG.

Week 2: Planet of Peace

Happy Monday!

So, before we get into this week’s emblem, which is Planet of Peace, I wanted to bring up a couple of things.

First, if you are looking for a pattern for a border to fit the 14″ x 18″ size I mentioned in the first newsletter, you can find it here. The color of the border is your choice, but I would remind everyone that there are A LOT of different colors going on with all of the emblems, so a neutral color might be the best option. (If I end up stitching one, I’m probably going to go for a really pale grey.)

(If you’re wondering why there is such a huge gap between the two designs it’s because I started another emblem, then decided I wanted to do this one for week 2.)

Another thing is that I’ve realized that some of you A.) don’t want to have to make a trek to a craft store once a week or B.) don’t have a full set of DMC colors (I don’t either, LOL). So, I’m going to go ahead and give the tentative list of colors you’ll need for the next eight weeks. I say tentative because if a more time-sensitive emblem comes along, then it will take priority over the ones I have planned.

Anyway, the color list for the next eight weeks are: 154, 310, 321, 600, 676, 733, 781, 820, 921, 976, 996, 3033, and white. For this week’s emblem you’ll need 321, 996, and white. Of course, feel free to use any substitutes as you see fit.

For those of you who have started, congrats! I’ve been stalking the #destiny2cal tag and it’s so wonderful seeing all the progress. For those of you who haven’t started, no worries! This craft-a-long is really low key and it’s supposed to be fun. As a reminder, the most easiest way to find your emblems is to use the #destiny2cal tag.

Also, all previous newsletters which have the previous emblems, instructions, legal stuff, introduction, etc. are available here. And if you’re having trouble receiving these newsletters, make sure to check your spam folder. As always. if you have any questions, drop them my way.

Week 1: Jacobson’s Staff

So, if you guys follow me on Twitter and/or Instagram, you saw me working on this emblem this past week. (Don’t worry, from now on, I don’t plan to post any sneak peeks on the upcoming emblems — except, maybe, a close up because we know I can’t resist those, LOL)

You’ll need four colors for this emblem: dark grey, light grey, dark pink, and light pink. The DMC colors I used were 645, 648, 815, and 335.

And of course, you’ll need the chart

Assuming you are working on 14 count aida cloth, when you’re finished, you’ll have a 2″ emblem, ready to show off to the masses. Remember to use the #Destiny2CAL, if you would like.

Now I’m off to work on next week’s emblem. If you have any questions, just drop me a line. (I will probably respond the most quickly on Twitter (@craftinggeek) — TweetDeck, it works wonders, I tell you.)

Happy Crafting!

Destiny Craft-a-long: Week 0

You’ve made the wise decision to take part of the Destiny 2 Emblem Craft-a-long, you clever person, you! Just in case you’re wondering what in the world you signed yourself up for, the goal is that by the end of this club which will end in September of 2018, we will have 48 different emblems patterns that you can create to make the world a more geeky place.

Each Monday, I’ll be sending out a newsletter with the pattern and color key of an emblem from Destiny 2. For those of you who are planning to stitch along, please be aware that I’m going to be using DMC colors since that’s what I stitch with. (I’ll be talking more about colors later on.)

The supply list for this club is a little unusual due to the fact that this project is so customizable. I have heard from some of you who plan to stitch one large project with all 48 emblems while other plan on making each emblem in a little hoop or as individual project. Others are making perlers and some are crocheting the designs.

So, for those of you who want to make one large cross-stitching project, you will need a 20″ x 24″ piece of  14 count aida cloth. Each emblem will be a 2″ square. So, with the border the final project will measure 14″ x 18″, assuming you’re using 14 count cloth.

Concerning the colors, well, for those of you who don’t have a ton of different shades of threads — have fun going to the craft store! Seriously, with all the different styles of the emblems, there are A LOT of different colors. However, if you have a color that’s close to the pattern already, please, feel free to use that color instead of what is on the color key.

Part of the fun of taking part of a craft-a-long club is to show off your progress, see how others in the group are doing, and basically be like, “Come on! You can stitch that bowl of ramen! You’ve got this!” If you want, feel free to use the hashtag #Destiny2CAL on whatever social media floats your boat and don’t forget to check that hashtag out too.

The legal stuff. Don’t sell this pattern. The charts can be used for personal use only, unless you get permission from Bungie as per their rules concerning intellectual property which you can read about here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/45842

I’m sure I’m forgetting about a million things. To be honest, I was woefully unprepared for how many of you wonderful people wanted to take part of this. Please drop me a line here, via my email (thecraftinggeek@gmail.com), or on Twitter or Instagram (@CraftingGeek) if you have any questions.

Happy crafting!
