Super Merry-o Christmas!

You know what time of the year it is, right?

It’s time to make the Christmas cards, baby!

So, last year, I made seven Destiny Christmas cards for my buddies. This year? 30. (And I wish I could have made a dozen or so more, but honestly, I only have so much time.)

And these are no ordinary Christmas cards. They are stockings. With a Merry Mario Mushroom on it.

(I love being a geek.)

I’m sure you want to make one for yourself (who wouldn’t?) so I’m going to walk you through all the steps. Or just watch the video up above and listen to me babble as I walk you through making the stocking.

What you’ll need:

14 count aida cloth
Red, green, black thread
Fabric for backing and any decorations to the front
Ribbon
The chart!

Step 1. Find a mini stocking template over on Bing or Google. (I found mine at cross-stitching.com, but you have to be a member to download it.) Trace it on your aida cloth. For reference, my stocking is 3″ across on top.

step 2
Step 2. Stitch your Merry Mushroom on your stocking. I put mine just under the midway point, about three or four rows above where the toe starts.

step 3
Step 3: Add any decorations that you want to add. You can handstitch them on. I went the Liquid Stitch route because I had 30. Stockings. To. Make.

step 4
Step 4: Make a loop with your ribbon. (I used hot glue to make a loop with it.) Then nestle it in between your fabric, making sure your fabric’s pretty sides are facing each other.

step 5
Step 5: Stitch that sucker up! Hand sew this if you want. (I went with the sewing machine route, leaving about a 1/4-1/2″ seam allowance.)

step 6
Step 6: Flip the stocking inside out. (Thing Popples.)

Step 7: Trim off any threads off the top. (You can use Fray Block if it’s bothering you, but I’m going to let the handmade quality of my project shine.

Step 8: Enjoy! (Or if you’re using them as a Christmas card, write your message in them.)

And now you have a mini stocking that is worthy to deck the halls in Peach’s castle. If you have any questions or comments, let me know!

Happy crafting! 😀 😀
